North Lesvos
Villages
Molyvos Μόλυβος
Also commonly appearing on signs and maps by it’s ancient name, Mithymna (Μήθυμνα), this is most beautiful village on the island, and one not to miss. This is Eleni’s and Eric’s favorite town on the island. It is built on a hillside topped by a medieval castle. Its stone architecture is distinct from any other town. It was a major rival of Mytilini in antiquity, and according to legend was sacked at least a couple of times by Achilles during the Trojan wars. The stone streets are shaded with vines and lined with shops and restaurants. The views over the Aegean are gorgeous all day long and especially at sunset. Our favorite stop is to get a dessert at Balkonaki (which means small Balcony) and eat it on the balcony overlooking the coast. Tourism Information
Petra Πέτρα
Aside from the nice beach, this village’s most distinctive feature is the church, Panagia Glikofilousa, perched on a rock in the center of town. It can be reached by climbing 114 steps. It is said that if you make a wish at the bottom and climb the steps in silence, your wish will come true.
